Please read this, it’s very important.

Oxfam is one of the world’s most active community aid organisations. They’re apolitical, independent and secular meaning they’re not concerned about anything except the well being of the people they’re trying to help. Oxfam does great work all around the world and are always one of the first organisations on the ground when disaster strikes.

Oxfam has very low overheads as they spend very little money on advertising which is why you might not have heard of them. They guarantee a certain amount of their funds go to releif aid and their campaigns (which include Make Poverty History, Make Trade Fair and the Close the Gap campaign which is specific to Australia). Immediate aid relief funds raised see 85 cents/$ going towards the response programs, while other campaigns see 81c/$.

Oxfam is NOT a charity. They’re called a community aid organisation because they teach communities to become self sufficient in numerous facets (including agriculture, water management, livestock raising, manufacturing). The tools required for this don’t come out of thin air, but this is where you can help. Buy something from Oxfam Unwrapped and give it to a friend or family member. How awesome is it for that person to say that someone bought a goat for a Sri Lankan family on their behalf?!? I bought my sister a pig which went to the Solomon Islands for her birthday this year, she loved it! You get a little card which you can give to the person you’re giving the gift to acknowledging the donation that’s been made on their behalf. Totally fantastic! :)

I would prefer that instead of paying me for these actions, you donate some money to Oxfam or purchase a gift for the developing world from Oxfam Unwrapped. Every little bit you contribute helps, even if it’s as small as $5. There’s always tragedy around the world somewhere, with someone who needs your help.

Please give generously.
